Had this listed a couple weeks back and had end the auction because the toggle switch stopped working. Now it's fixed. My wife asked me to downsize, so I'm moving some guitars out of my studio space. This guitar hasn't been played much in the last couple years. The 1457's are really great guitars (ask Jagger), and someone else should enjoy it now.
These guitars were made for Sears by Danelectro, and offered from 1963 to 1966. This is the fancy model with red sparkle paint, longer scale, and 2 lipstick pickups. Also has the better amp (built into the case) -- a 6V6 output, with trem. The stacked pots in the guitar have been replaced with genuine Dano pots -- the originals will be included if I can find them. As noted above, the toggle is also new, and original will be included in the case. I also noted an intermittent problem with the neck pickup, which I traced back to a bend in the wire -- I braced it so it stays straight (see pic), and problem is gone.
The amp has been completely gone thru -- new filter caps, plus all out of spec resistors and coupling caps were replaced. Amp sounds good, has typical single-ended hum (like a Champ) but is fully operational -- great trem, too. Grounded cord added for safety, Non-original trem foot switch included.
Overall, case is banged up and worn on the corners. Repairs to the cloth interior, and looks like the hinges have been reattached with small bolts instead of rivets. Case is still solid to transport and protect the guitar. Original Jensen 8" speaker still sounds good. Neck is straight, "skate key" tuners are in good shape, guitar stays in tune. Plenty of life left in the frets, finish is still pretty, and all electronics work as they should.
Shipping isn't cheap because the amps make these cases heavy. Local pickup in Baltimore is welcome.
Please ask questions before bidding, because once this gets out of the house I don't want it back, or I'll keep it.
